The plasterers in Japan are generally called Sakan (左官).  Traditonal plastering work done by Sakans in Japan are those white plaster walls of Japanese-style castellations, and the walls of rooms used for the tea ceremony, which show the essence of wabi-sabitea_house_detail-150x150Walls created for Japanese Tea Room in the past were often made of mud with bamboo structure without any decorative materials and they are called Tsuchikabe (土壁, earth wall).   This sukiya style represents the Japanese view of life which embraces the simple aesthetic that shows the natural beauty of materials without anythings non essentials.
