The screen is a design project which is to partially convert an existing Japanese tea ceremony school to a new line of business. The location of this concept design project is in Kanda, Tokyo in a two stories wooden building. The aim is to preserve the existing interior of the 2nd floor where the school is and to create a new line of business of which would harmonize the existing Japanese design while bring in a new essence of Japanese modernism making use of traditional architecture and design.
The new line of business is a Japanese Jazz dining bar and the establishment is named “The Screen”. The dining bar hosts live Japanese Jazz and it is performed behind a traditional shoji (Partition made with translucent Japanese paper) to create the effect of one of the major Japanese design elements: ( Light and Shadow)
